Robert Gordon - perennial title contender

Robert Gordon, the well-drilling Renegade driver from Milton, VT came up 15 points of the 2011 Renegade championship, but in the meantime broke the track record for most wins in a single season (6). Those six wins moved him into first-place on the all-time Airborne Renegade win list (13).

Gordon has been hopping the Cumberland ferry to Airborne for 10 years. In that span, he’s driven the familiar white with blue numbers H20 machine H20 Renegadeinto the top-5 in points eight times – twice as runner-up, but he’s still seeking his first title.

“We’re there to have fun,” says Gordon’s wife Julie, who makes it to every race along with Robert’s cousin Renee, her husband Jimbo Perry and cousin Randy Gordon the crew chief. “If it’s not fun, you might as well not do it. We like racing in general – NASCAR, snowmobiles, whatever. more

Airborne values robust 4-cylinder division

Airborne Speedway has merged its two 4-cylinder racing divisions into one for the 2012 season and is counting on a highly competitive season that produces a new, first-time, Busch Mini Modified track champion.
The Mini Modified throne has been vacated by 2011 champion Speedy Bresette of Plattsburgh, who is moving up to the Adirondack Water Sportsman Modified division.

“This year, the Mini Modified car count is on the rise because of new teams forming and the inclusion of the former Bomber class. Johnmichael Bresette of Ausable Forks, the 2011 Bomber champion, will also compete as a Sportsman Modified this season.

“How things are going in your most affordable division is an indicator of how you’re doing overall,” promoter Mike Perrotte said.
“The four-cylinder teams Busch Mini Modshave a passion for the sport and put people in the stands. Many of our top drivers started out in an entry-level division. It will be a real accomplishment for whoever comes out on top this year.

Richard Tisseur reloads for Airborne Mod action

Airborne Speedway DIRTcar Modified driver Richard Tisseur of Chateauguay, QC, sidelined with medical problems for much of last year, will begin this season in good health with new equipment, an added sponsor and a new crew member.

“Last year was a very bad one for me,” Tisseur said. “This season will be much better. I have a new PMC chassis, a new GM Performance CT525 crate engine and a new set-up specialist, Brent Tittle, on my team. Brent worked with Frank Cozze in 2009 when Cozze won the Syracuse 200.”more plus, cliquez ici

Gentlemen (and Ladies) start your engines

One of the competitors in Airborne's new Adirondack Water Sportsman Modified division this season will be Colleen Salisbury of Queensbury, NY, familiar to fans as the driver of the Ernie's Discount Tools Modified No. 13.

Salisbury is likely the only living female telephone operator ever to have won an event at Albany Saratoga. ."First off, there aren't many telephone operators left," Salisbury admitted. "I work for Verizon out of Glens Falls. I won a 6-cylinder Cruiser race at A/S in 1999.

Colleen's father Raymond brought her to the races at Albany Saratoga "back in the day". "Before entering an Enduro, the guy I was buying a firesuit from told me I'd get hooked and he was right," Salisbury said.

"I like the teamwork part of racing, but I also like the individual part of it. There's nobody but me in the car for better or for worse," Salisbury said.

Salisbury's brother Randy is the motorman, but she gets her hands dirty too. more cliquez ici

Airborne schedules pair of DIRTcar 358 Modified Asphalt Tour events

.

Airborne Speedway and Dunn Tire Raceway Park in Lancaster, NY, will each host two events in a four-race DIRTcar 358-Modified series offering a combined purse of $60,000.

“We’ve added a mid-week night of racing to our 2012 schedule – Wednesday, June 20, and boosted the payoff for the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Triple 50’s Shootout Saturday/Sunday September 8-9,” Airborne promoter Mike Perrotte said. “The Shootout winner will collect $5,000.”

“It’s always exciting for our fans to see how our Modified teams stack up against quality invaders and it’s a series we can build upon in the future,” Perrotte added.

The series opener at Airborne will go 75 laps and pay $3,000-to-win. Dunn Tire Raceway Park dates are Tuesday, June 26 and Tuesday, August 21. Both events at the western NY half-mile facility also pay $3,000 to win.

“We’ll be there at Dunn,” said Patrick Dupree two-time Airborne Modified track champion. “It’s a challenging track and a change of scenery for us. Hopefully we can do a good job of promoting DIRTcar racing on asphalt and expand the series.”

"We're very much looking forward  to be on board with this series, along with Airborne and DIRTcar," said Tim Packman, President Stock Car Operations at DTRP. "This provides us with a great opportunity to host an event with DIRTcar; one of the most recognized sanctions in motorsports. And, in our area, the DIRTcar 358-Modifieds are highly recognized as well. We're looking forward to these races. Our fans are already talking about both events."

Airborne’s 59th season opener is set for Sunday, April 29. Opening day will mark the debut of Airborne’s new Modified Sportsman division. Robin Wood of Plattsburgh will begin defense of his 2011 track championship in the J&S Steel Limited Late Model division.

Ormsby brothers team up

This season at Airborne, the Ormsby brothers, Craig and Todd will demonstrate that DIRTcar Modified racing is more about overcoming adversity than it is about glory or speed .

Craig Ormsby begins the 2012 schedule in remission of follicular lymphoma (lymph cancer). “Early last spring, I didn’t feel right,” he said. “When Todd’s car had motor trouble early on, he ran mine once for points and later, after more motor problems, he finished up the season with it."

“At first, I didn’t know what was up last year,” Ormsby said. “Then the diagnosis was made and I started chemotherapy. By August, I had lost 65 lbs. and couldn’t hold down food. I’m much stronger now and, within limits, can do just about anything I want. I have some maintenance therapy the first of May. It’s something I need to do for a month at a time every six months for the next three years. ButI’ll be at Airborne every Saturday.”
